Casey's Garden - Date Claimer 13th March Our mate Mark Skinner has been busy organising the project for a 5 year old Casey Harms and her grandparents. Mark got in touch with the club with this progress report, and a shout out to Alex Rotary to help out with the garden. This will be our 4th (?) garden blitz to make a difference and delighted to help Mark and the team he has organised. Here's a bit from his emails... Casey is a beautiful little 5-year-old who has RTD [Riboflaven Transporter Deficiency Type 2]. For Casey, his condition includes paralysis of the cranial nerves and sensorineural deafness, the later being addressed with a cochlear implant in the hope that by hearing, he will eventually learn to talk. He also has severe damage to other nerves, particularly his limbs which are heavily distorted. Amazingly he moves around by shuffling his backside. There is hope that one day he may walk but that will be a fair way down the track. He also lacks the ability to regulate his body temperature. - MixFM leading the charge and coordinating the project.
- From Monday 22nd February, Todd & Sami from MixFM will start a soft launch on-air, mentioning Casey's story.
- Then W/C from 1st March they will ramp up with the callout for everything that is needed to complete the makeover and run this through W/C 8th March as well.
- Sami will liaise directly with Jason from iLandscape and have him in for many of the days across the two weeks to update listeners where we are at, what supplies we still need to be donated etc.
Then the yard makeover day will be on Saturday 13th March. - This will be fairly major but Jason from iLandscape is an expert in this field and will manage all materials and labour.
- We are also going to upgrade all the front gardens and whilst Jason will coordinate all materials, we are hoping Rotarians from Mooloolaba and Alex Heads will assist.
- We will also want to run a bbq for most of the day to feed workers and suppliers. Perhaps Rotary can assist with this too. I can get meat, bread, eggs and a coffee van.
Really appreciate everyone's support to give this family a great new backyard for Casey. Here's Casey at play, and the task ahead, to turn this existing garden into a place of memories for Casey. |
