THE SunnyCoast Winter Solstice Swim is
on Sunday June 27th at Alex SLSC
Come and enjoy a mid winter swim on the Sunny Coast. Pick your swim distance and join in for a day of fun at Alex SLSC while supporting the Rotary Community Causes
SalTy Souls
This year we want to get behind Sunshine Coast charity, SalTy Souls Legacy. SalTy Souls is a legacy charity set up in loving memory of Tyler Kennedy who tragically passed away in 2017. You can follow the SalTy Souls story on Facebook or Instagram or via the website and show your support by whatever way you can, taking part in swim, donations, sponsorship or just coming along to say Hi and keep up the good work.
The Sunshine Coast has some amazing volunteer groups doing some fantastic work with helping all members of the community, and the SalTy Souls group are a great example of the passion that a family have to create a legacy for a lost loved one.
Rotary is a not for profit community group that has clubs all over the world, helping volunteers make a difference. But more than than that ..all our volunteers give freely of their time and "service before self" is one of our ideals.
That means that we try not to hold onto any fundraising money, and get it out to those folk who need it.
So we couldn't hold these events without the help of our sponsors and supporters.
So a BIG thank you to these sponsors of the SunnyCoast Solstice Swim
For all your office and school furniture
IGA Marketplace are great supporters of many community programs, and we’ll also see them with a Gazebo at Buhk Park, with their friendly team handing out fresh fruit for the swimmers!!

Barre and Bike run a fantastic family gym in Maroochydore and are donating their time to give the swimmers (and anyone else) a warm up session on a glorious winter solstice morning at Alex Beach park.

What to Expect...

Come along to Alex SLSC in the middle of Winter to show your support for the Community.
This year Alex Rotary and Alex SLSC have got together to run the Winter Solstice Swim legs in aid of the Sunshine Coast Community helpers.
We're usually guaranteed beautiful Sunshine Coast weather for the swims which are a great opportunity to shake off those mid - winter blues with a dip in the ocean in front of the Alex SLSC.

The courses

All the courses will be clearly marked in the bay by buoys. Thank you Mooloolaba Yacht club for the loan of their huge YACHT BUOYS. There will be SLSC wardens on the course and will follow the stragglers in to the finish.
All swims start and finish on the beach in front of the SLSC. You will be able to time yourself to check your personal best.
We are still investigating how best to do the timing, but its unlikely it will be via anklets as per previous swims. We're working on alternatives.
Different courses will have different colour caps.
  • The 1 km, 3km and 5Km swim should only be attempted by very experienced ocean swimmers and if you have any reservations, please discuss your concerns with the swim captain on the day.
  • The swimmers will be set off in order
  • There will be a safety briefing prior to swim starts.
  • The course may be changed by the SLSC to suit the conditions on the day

Extreme Weather Contingency
As with any ocean activity, we may have to change plans to suit the weather. So some changes may be necessary on the day. If the weather is bad we will endeavour to offer an alternative course. We'll do whatever we can to ensure a fun and competitive swim on the day.
Stay tuned to the SLSC facebook page.
If the weather is so bad that nothing can be done on the day, we will hold the event at an alternative weekend.
Once you register and give the club your email address we will keep in touch with any last minute changes via email
Registration well ahead of time will ensure a better chance of getting the right size T shirt.
